Water Resistance Of Safety Clothing

Why do outdoor workers wear raincoats on rainy days? First of all, in the Autumn and Winter, people want to stay warm even when they are outside, and secondly, people want raincoats that are waterproof and keep their bodies dry and comfortable. But do you really understand waterproof performance?

The waterproof performance of the fabric is mainly reflected in specific indicators such as hydrostatic pressure level, water repellency, and moisture permeability. Water Resistance, also known as anti-hydrostatic pressure or water pressure resistance in the industry, is expressed in mmH2O, which refers to the strength of water pressure per unit area. We use a fabric hydrostatic pressure meter in the laboratory for testing. Under standard conditions, the tested fabric can withstand the maximum water pressure of distilled water spraying upwards.

For example, the water pressure resistance is 2000mmH20, which means that the fabric per unit area can withstand water with a pressure of 2 meters at most without water leakage. Commonly used testing standards: American Standard AATCC 127, European Standard ISO 811, Japanese Standard JIS L1092B. The national and European standards for high-visibility warning clothing (reflective clothing) have no requirements for hydrostatic pressure. American Standard has hydrostatic pressure requirements for high-visibility warning clothing with waterproof function. It is stipulated that the hydrostatic pressure before washing and after washing 5 times is greater than or equal to 2000mmH20.

Water-repellent, also known as water-stained grade in the industry. Under standard conditions, distilled water is sprayed on the test specimens through a funnel, and then rated against the standard level of water resistance. Commonly used testing standards: American standard AATCC22, European standard ISO4920. The national and European standards for high-visibility warning clothing (reflective clothing) have no requirements for water repellency. American Standard has water-repellent requirements for high-visibility warning clothing with waterproof function, which stipulates that it must be greater than or equal to level 4 before washing and greater than or equal to level 2 after washing 5 times.

In fact, the industry divides water repellent into ordinary waterproof, water repellent and Teflon waterproof. Ambersch launched several Teflon waterproof raincoats, which were favored by customers as soon as they came out. The Teflon waterproof material is produced by DuPont in the United States, which has the characteristics of waterproof, anti-fouling, and oil-proof. Customers who have special requirements for anti-splash can choose this Type R reflective raincoat.
